In January 2009, Amy Goodman interviewed Avi Shlaim, a professor of international relations at Oxford University who served in the Israeli army in the mid-1960s.

Avi Shlaim supports the Zionist project of Israel within the 1967 borders but strongly objects to the colonial expansion and occupation of the Palestinian Territories.

This interview is a breath of fresh air from a very credible source speaking about Israel, Ariel Sharon, Hamas, Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza in 2005, the lies and truth behind the propaganda.  He is not an apologist for Hamas but he puts the politics of Hamas vs. Fatah into context.

When I speak to groups in the USA about Gaza, I think I will show this interview.  It is very informative and I encourage everyone to watch it.  Once, twice, until its contents are fully digested.
