Today was a beautiful day in Cairo, and since I’ve been stuck indoors for several days with a head cold, I decided to walk to Tahrir Square about six blocks away.
The streets downtown are busy with window shoppers. There are big sales advertised in most stores. 40% 50% 60% off!
Tahrir Square is quiet at 3 PM. A small group is standing, listening to a very impassioned speaker on the platform. Other small groups of people (mostly men) are sitting and engaged in conversations. Oh I wish I understood Arabic!
Even without the language, I understand two messages clearly. President Morsi is hung in effigy.
And U.S. Ambassador Anne Patterson is warned to “GO BACK TO HELL”
I wonder what discussions are going on back home in the State Department. Do they realize how many Egyptians despise US foreign policy?
