Obama MIA

I have been writing, deleting, writing, and deleting a letter to President Obama to express my outrage.  No words seem adequate, and so I delete again.

Today Obama made the following statement:

President Barack Obama suggested Sunday that it was “preferable” that Israel did not launch a ground invasion in Gaza, but stood firm over support of its ally despite mounting Palestinian civilian casualties.

Speaking at the start of a three-day tour of south-east Asia, he reiterated the White House position that rockets fired into Israel by Hamas were the “precipitating event” in the ratcheting up of cross-border conflict.

Obama added that America had been “actively working with all the parties in the region” to bring about a de-escalation of violence and that the next 48 hours would be important if progress were to be made.

Now you probably understand why I can’t find the words to share my disgust, disappointment and dismay.

Is Obama really that ignorant about the history of the occupation, about the impacts of the 5 year siege on Gaza, about the UN’s report this summer that says Gaza will be unlivable by 2020, and about the events leading up to Israel’s extra-judicial assassination of a Hamas leader on Wednesday?  Is he clueless about the facts on the ground — about the slaughter of innocent men, women and children in Gaza?

How much ink will it take to educate the man?   And would he read it in any case?

I voted for the man, more a vote against Romney than a vote for Obama.  The lesser of two evils.  But if Romney was sitting in the White House today, would the response have been any different?  I don’t think so.

The United States has been an obstacle to any chance of reaching peace between Israel and Palestine.  And if you don’t understand how —- it would take too many keystrokes to explain.

I’m tired of listening to the high-tech drones buzzing overhead, ready to fire a missile on a motorcyclist (as they did today) or a house (as they did today) or ME!   Not yet.

I’m tired of ignorant Americans who are clueless about how our tax dollars are being spent — to the tune of $3 Billion each year — to give Israel the weapons to carry out this slaughter in Gaza tonight.

I’m tired.   Obama is hopeless.

I work in the West Bank and I support this message. I have similar feelings.
Where do you work, rapture84? You don’t know anything about what is happening or why. Go in peace and be edified, for your soul’s sake.

  4. Thank you for that Lora. Obama has always been weak and quick to compromise. So sad.

  5. I agree. I saw the video and have voice my outrage. With a weak
President USA cannot lead any kind of peace talks. Bring back Bill Clinton or a Jimmy Carter. Men who could get the Middle East to live together in peace. Thank you for your blog.

  6. Hamas do not use children as shields. And Hamas do not kill Palestinian children. Hamas are parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts who love their children and want a future for them that is secure and safe. Your ignorance is astonishing, but sadly too many Westerners share your ignorance. 😦
I’m not sure what more to say. May I ask why your name is Rapture?

  7. First of all Hamas terrorists shouldn’t use children as shield.
Second, I won’t be surprised if Hamas terrorists kill Palestinian children just for the footage by foreign media.
