Silence about Gaza

Five years!   Israel’s stranglehold on Gaza has lasted FIVE YEARS!   And President Obama remains silent.

Israel has kept Gazans on its infamous  “diet”  for five FUC*ING years with the support and blessing of the United States.   Egypt’s cooperation (complicity) in maintaining this blockade has been critical since the southern border of Gaza is shared with Egypt.

In official pronouncements, Israel says the blockade is necessary for security reasons.   That’s patently false.

The list of prohibited items that Israel stops from crossing the border with Gaza has included coriander, nutmeg, ginger, dried fruit, fresh meat, lentils, pasta, chocolate, donkeys, cattle, fishing rods, musical instruments and newspapers. Are most of these not “basic products”? What threat did chocolate or coriander pose to Israeli security? Is it any wonder that Israel’s isolation of Gaza – aided and abetted by Egypt on the strip’s southern border – was described in a 2009 UN investigation, led by the distinguished South African jurist and self-proclaimed Zionist Richard Goldstone, as a policy “amounting to collective punishment”?

Last week fifty organizations called for the end of Israel’s blockade, including:

1. Action Contre la Faim (ACH)

2. Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (Acted)

3. American Friends Service Committee (AFSC)

And yet President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton remain silent.   I find their silence, and the silence of the US Congress disgusting.   I hope President  محمد  مرسي  speaks loudly, clearly and quickly about the injustices occurring in Gaza.
